Commercial graphics are the foundation of my portfolio and have been for many many years. It is a treat to go into another industry and put the mind to what is the essence of that business, to zero in on a target market and ... aim, fire and HIT the mark.

When I opened my first agency, I wore the many hats of the account exec, creative manager, administrator, illustrator. Many days, I simply put all the hats on at once and went out into the world apologizing for my lack of staff but exuding confidence in my abilities to follow through in all areas. One particular account I was trying to sell was something so utterly opposite from everything I'd ever done commercially. Coming from the world of haute couture, I was naturally suspect in the rough and tumble stamping plant where a ... now, deepen the inner voice here ... a buncha Bullards were poundin' the tarnation outta some steel! Bullards are huge stamping machines... they looked to me like old fashioned steam furnaces. Out of my element, maybe... but I made my presentation, showed my portfolio and gave him my quote letter. "But you're so ... girly!" the boss exclaimed. I know these rahr rahr guys had in mind some strapping equally rahr rahr ad exec that they could go play golf with and gnosh about baseball scores et al, but temerity and price prevailed. Girly or not, I got the job, put together a smashing brochure (My lead in line was 'Bullard Muscle'...) that the client loved and which got me many referrals and the beginnings of being established.
You can easily see I have a penchant for a little tongue and cheek humor. Racoons are cute. We had a bunch of them when I was little. The mother died and we fed the cubs with little doll bottles. They were raucously funny with amazing personalities! Chickens? Well, that's another matter. We had lots of them too, but none so panic button pushing as my favorite Chicken Little! I did for the 777ADzine™. Then there's good old Hand To Mouse. Just a little after hours whimsy to dispel some of the hard marketing brain work I do during the day.
